This month’s NAPW Bethlehem meeting was launched with a 1-hour, Member-only planning meeting during which Members interested in taking on additional responsibilities within the group agreed upon new policies and task assignments.

Prior to initiating the planning session, last month’s meeting minutes were reviewed and accepted.

New Policies & Administration

Attendance and participation during monthly meetings are needed to make this chapter a success. For these next few months, our objective is to increase awareness of our chapter and NAPW in general by opening the door for the monthly sessions to as many women as possible so that attending NAPW Members have more opportunities to network with other professional women, and so that our chapter will grow.
Non-Members: Given the newness of the Bethlehem Chapter, non-Members will continue to be invited to attend each meeting without enforcing the 2-meeting limit. This will be revisited after 6 months of meetings before it is decided what the limitation should be for non-Members attending the monthly meetings. Students can attend meetings and join the chapter just like other professional women.
Public Speaking Opportunities: While non-Members will be able to network with Members during each monthly meeting, only Members will be given public speaking opportunities, social media promotions & event support, access to meeting materials online & access to online networking opportunities via LinkedIn & Facebook postings. For events where only a limited attendance can be accepted, Members will be given first preference. Sharing of costs for participation in community events (to lower the cost to individuals) will only be amongst NAPW Members.
Meeting topics will vary each month including coordinating networking mixers or panel discussions, scheduling special “guest” speakers from within NAPW, conducting speed networking events, collaborating with other chapters out of town, conducting/supporting nonprofit fundraisers, etc. All speakers must be NAPW members and must attend 3 meetings with their local chapter or with NAPW Bethlehem before being scheduled to present a topic at a monthly event. NAPW members wishing to be scheduled for a speaking opportunity may contact Sandra E. Del Cueto and Diane Gagliardo, who are now both heading up the charge to come up with meeting topics.
News & Event Updates: Members can send worthy news & event information to napwbethlehem@gmail.com for subsequent posting to Facebook, Twitter and our NAPW webpage by our social media team. At this time, 2 members and 1 intern (through LaceFront Entertainment, LLC.) will be working on this. News can be anything a member may want to share with both members and non-Members. Members may also share news, information, and upcoming events directly through our LinkedIn group. Further updates on how Members can post to our Facebook page will be published at a later date, once a full-fledged social media policy is in place.
Meeting Materials: Dropbox will be the storage medium for all published chapter materials. Only NAPW Bethlehem Members will be given access.

New Assignments
General Oversight & Accountability: Cordie Lacey, Chapter President will continue to ensure monthly meetings are scheduled, manage administration and build/nurture relationships for available meeting space each month, in addition to providing oversight to all functions needed to ensure the success of the chapter.
Membership: Diane Gagliardo and Jacqueline Nonnemacher will be responsible for membership contact & follow up.
Social Media & PR: Keshay Blount will join the intern(s) from LaceFront Entertainment to help upkeep our social media pages. We need to keep the buzz going about the chapter via LinkedIn and other sites to gain more visibility.
Event Planning: Sandra Del Cueto and Diane Gagliardo will determine meeting/event topics (each quarter).
Meeting Minutes: Helen Drahos agreed to capture meeting minutes whenever she is in attendance. (A backup minute taker is still needed).

NAPW Updates
Member News: Four new members, YEAH! Continue to spread the word ladies.
Interns: Cordie Lacey reported that her company, LaceFront Entertainment, LLC. will be adding college interns to its staff. There are no gender restrictions. LaceFront Entertainment, LLC. has offered to allow the intern(s) to help with supporting the NAPW Bethlehem Chapter’s ongoing social media and PR campaign in exchange for networking opportunities for the college students with NAPW members.
Annual National Conference Update: This year’s conference in New York City was very well attended. Members from every state in the US were present, including visitors from overseas. Cordie Lacey, President, shared some of her souvenirs with Members who were not able to attend. Martha Stewart and Arianna Huffington were the Keynote Speakers.
Annual National Conference President’s Dinner: Cordie reported that other Chapter Presidents shared their experiences with Member attendance. Some of the suggested to tools to obtain member feedback are to use Survey Monkey to determine from Members what topics they would be interested in for the monthly meetings. Ideas on how and to what extent to engage non-Members was also shared.
Other Key Discussion Points
Member Attendance: Ideas were discussed about how to attract more Members to come to the meetings consistently. Several good suggestions were discussed, such as having a 50/50 raffle during which proceeds would go towards an end of year event for the Members; also under consideration is that each speaker purchase a small, fun gift to present to the next monthly speaker as a way to build camaraderie.
About NAPW: All agreed that a meeting focused to discuss what NAPW is about and for new member orientation would be helpful since there are enough women who have started asking what this group is about.
Contacting Members: Going forward, Jackie Nonnemacher will contact members each month via telephone to remind them of the monthy meetings. (Cordie will also send a note to Members asking them if they don’t mind – if necessary, we will create a “Do Not Call” list for those who do not wish to be contacted each month). Additional members will be asked to assist with contacting Members who have never attended the meetings.
Community Events Participation: A suggestion was made for NAPW members to participate in other community events where we can have a table to display promotional items for the business owners within the chapter and for NAPW Bethehem. There may be a cost associated with participating in those events which will not be picked up by NAPW. Members who want to participate can discuss/agree to share the cost to minimize the cost to any one person. Members are advised to bring event information to future meetings or to share it via our social media sites.
Power Hour Mixer: The evening was closed with a “Power Hour” Mixer and New Member Toast at Bethlehem BrewWorks, where we were joined by new attendee, Yamilette Ayala. We all had a great time sharing our experiences and background. A toast was made to new Member, Keshay Blount, who joined NAPW and met with our local chapter for the first time. MINUTES: April 11, 2013 – Speed Networking Event

The NAPW Bethlehem Chapter held its 2nd monthly meeting in the form of a Speed Networking Event at East Stroudsburg University’s new Bethlehem-based facility. Attendees delved deeply while engaging in time-bound one-on-one exchanges. Members and non-members were astonished with the results – – it was reportedly the most effective networking session that some have ever attended! Below are just some highlights of who was in attendance and the information exchanged:

Sandra Del Cueto – Education: Sandra teaches both English and Spanish to her students at Northampton Community College. Her focus in a professional setting is to involve her students in the community by promoting active service and translation of English and Spanish in the Lehigh Valley. Born in Cuba, but raised in Manhattan, Sandra has traveled all over the East coast, but one day dreams of returning to California where she once lived. Sandra joined NAPW primarily for networking and meeting new people. She hopes to share in her experiences teaching and in her life interests which include reading and writing. Sandra is also married with a 14 year old daughter.

Michele Dolgos – Marketing and Sales: Michele is the National Marketing and Sales Manager at A. Sheftel & Sons, a local textile manufacturer. Her specialties are in social media marketing, product launches, public relations, career placements/resume services and sales training. Michele also is the head coach and BOD member of the Lehigh Valley Rollergirls, a nationally ranked non-profit organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for women athletes to achieve their maximum potential, both athletically and intellectually through the sport of roller derby. Michele is also an avid theatre and experience adventurist. She has a bucket list of things to do and see and is actively completing them. Michele has joined the NAPW to branch out her own personal network and to increase her involvement in the community in promoting professionalism in women. Jacqueline Nonnemacher – Financial Services: Jaqueline (Jackie) is a Financial Advisor and Franchise Owner of Ameriprise Financial. With 14 years of experience in financial services, Jackie’s professional mantra is to help individuals plan for the future and to help them avoid their own personal fiscal cliff. The services she provides include plans to prepare for retirement, college planning, risk management and long term care planning. She offers free consultation and can help answer questions regarding financial services and accounting. Besides wanting to introduce the NAPW members about her services, Jackie has joined NAPW to meet new people like herself and to explore more networking options. In her spare time, Jackie enjoys working out by going on walks and mountain biking. She also enjoys gardening and can’t wait to spend the nice weather with her new German Wire Hair dog named Gretchen. Jill Whiskeyman – Digital Branding: Jill is the owner and Accounts Director at Simpatico Interactive, a digital branding company located online at simpaticointeractive.com. The company specializes in branding and initiating an online presence for their customers, typically in a B2C e-commerce environment. They offer web design and development and focus on a mobile friendly user experience. Their niche includes start-up companies, but they offer many more services including expansion into social media, email marketing, copyrighting, SEO/optimization, and strategic planning. Jill is also on the development committee for the Lehigh Valley Children’s Center, where her expertise helps promote education media. Jill will also be furthering her own education and be graduating from school very soon with a Master’s in Integrated Marketing. Jill describes herself as an avid reader and writer and claims to be a “foodie” who likes to try out new and exciting restaurants in and around the Lehigh Valley. Diane Gagliardo- Travel Services: Diane is a franchise owner of Cruise Planners out of Flemington, NJ. Cruise Planners, in connection with American Express Travel, offers destination experiences that are custom tailored to the needs of the customer. Diane has also recently introduced a travel match up/ meet up where individuals can come together, learn about other people’s travel needs and desires and individual travelers can be matched up for future travel partners. Diane’s services go beyond travel, she builds a relationship with each of her clients and then custom tailors each vacation based on the individual, not on just a destination. Diane has joined the NAPW to branch out and expand her business, but she is also looking to build relationships with other women who can share their experiences and professional wisdom. Besides being a Dream Vacation Agent, Diane has described herself as an 80’s music and “I Love Lucy” super fan. She collects much of the Lucy memorabilia, and has even travelled to many destinations to celebrate such events like Lucille Ball’s 100th Birthday celebration in Jamestown, NY. MINUTES: March 7, 2013 – Wine & Cheese Mixer

Guest Speakers/Presenters: Linda Bell, ACCESS Director, DeSales University

The NAPW Bethlehem Chapter began its first monthly meeting this year with a Wine & Cheese Networking Mixer, bringing together an eclectic group of 19 professional women in what all believe will be a thriving women’s networking group here in the Lehigh Valley. Excitement, curiosity and anticipation lighted the event as women representing the small business and large business sectors, entrepreneurs and franchisees, political, entertainment, education, travel, health and other industries gathered.

At 6:00 p.m., attendees arrived at DeSales University’s Easton campus to find a room decorated with sponsor donated give-aways and brochures, registration materials, soft music, wine & cheese and comfortable seating to allow for easy movement, just to set the mood for a relaxed after-work social. The evening began with NAPW members and guests getting acquainted with one another, sharing commonalities and engaging in free, open conversation. Thirty minutes into the evening, sponsor representative, Linda Bell of DeSales University addressed the group regarding their ACCESS Program, and other higher level education programs geared specifically for the working professional. Chapter President, Cordie Lacey, and Principal of LaceFront Entertainment, LLC. followed with a presentation, outlining a high level 2013 strategy for NAPW Bethlehem’s ongoing sustenance and continued growth, especially for the benefit and support of each individual member and their businesses. The floor was then opened for individual attendee introductions, events announcements and sharing of ideas that could benefit the Chapter and their respective communities. Key ideas shared include:

• Hold a Mother/Daughter event to attract high school and college students not yet in the work force
• Consider having one NAPW chapter for Lehigh Valley instead of separate chapters for Allentown/Bethlehem/Easton
• Consider having networking meetings at members’ businesses to promote/feature business services
• Contact local food businesses to request donations for meetings in exchange for publicity & speaking opportunities for their business at NAPW Bethlehem events and promotions via Facebook, LinkedIn, PR Web, etc.

Prior to concluding the evening, a business card drawing was conducted resulting in 3 winners:
